SAFARI CLUB INTERNATIONAL was founded in 1971 and currently has a membership of over 54,000 active sportsmen and sportswomen in more than 100 countries including the United States, with 187 individual SCI Chapters worldwide. Safari Club International and the Safari Club International Foundation annually spend in excess of 400 million dollars on hunting-related activities, conservation programs throughout the world which help bolster rural economies dependent on wildlife-associated recreation,  and humanitarian aid to individuals and communities in need.

In the fall of 2002, a small group of far-sighted SCI members in the Casper area sent out a letter to all "at-large" SCI members in central Wyoming asking them to attend an organizational meeting here in Casper with the intent of trying to organize a local Chapter.  The outcome of that meeting was the formation of the Central Wyoming Chapter in early 2003.  Since the inception of the Central Wyoming Chapter, we have grown from a core requirement of 25 members, to a current membership of  154 individuals from across Wyoming and the surrounding states of Idaho, Nebraska, South Dakota and Utah.  We have gone from having no money to current contributions totaling approximately $46,955 benefiting humanitarian causes, hunter education and wildlife conservation (see Chapter Programs).

Our members are dedicated to:

Conservation of wildlife and the preservation of their habitats worldwide.

Education of the public on conservation issues and safe hunting practices.

Providing humanitarian assistance to those less fortunate than ourselves.

Publicly advocating our right to hunt locally, nationally and internationally.

Central Wyoming Chapter Mission Statement:

Safari Club International is the leader in protecting the freedom to hunt and in promoting wildlife conservation worldwide. The mission of SCI and the Central Wyoming Chapter is to:

  • Provide value to members by shaping policies and legislation that protect the freedom to hunt locally, nationally and internationally.
  • Keeping members informed regarding issues that impact hunting while educating and entertaining members with engaging articles about the rich heritage of hunting in all forms of media.

  • Providing a community for hunters worldwide where camaraderie is enjoyed and expert information is engaged, and where members are able to participate in a market for quality hunting goods and services.
  • Promoting a positive image of hunters and portraying them as responsible citizens who fund wildlife conservation, education, humanitarian and other programs which benefit the community.
